Introduction
K+
Steno-kit
teaches
speedwriting
based
on Forkner shorthand
using
the K+
Steno-method.
The
K+
Steno-method
consists
of
three
(3)
consecutive parts:
1.
the
K+
Steno-table
and
__K+
Steno-exercise-table;
2.
an
Aesop's fable;
3.
the K+
Steno-notes.
This
3-part approach to teaching
speedwriting using Forkner
steno-
graphs
(phonetic
letters
used
to
transcribe words into stenography)
makes learning
speedwriting easy,
fun, very
doable, and quick
to learn.
K+
Steno-method
The
K+
Steno-method
is
based on
Forkner
shorthand because
it's
the
easiest to learn
among
the many
kinds of
stenography.
It
introduces Forkner
stenographs in
a comprehensive, simple, "graduated"
manner
using
the K+
Steno-table.
This
makes learning the stenographs
"fun"
and "e-z".
Forkner
stenographs uses
things that
we are familiar with: punctuation
marks,
and
printed/cursive
letters of the
alpha-
bet in
both upper and lower
case
along
with
a few
unique line characters.
The fact that people
are familiar with
nearly all the stenographs
(except
for a few)
makes
learning how to use
them
to
transcribe English sounds
fairly
easy.
The
stenographs
can be
divided into
three (3)
categories: vowels,
conso-
nants,
and syllables.
Forkner
"long format" stenography
uses only those stenographs
that
represent only vowels
and conso-
nants:
it transcribes every
sound.
Forkner
"short format" stenography
on
the other hand uses
the whole
range of stenographs
including
those
that represent
multiple
syllables. It
encourages the
abbreviation of tran-
sribed words,
the use
of word/sen-
tence
sound
outlines, and
the
linking
of
transcribed words as techniques
that can be used for more
efficient
speedwriting.
The
K+
Steno-exercise-table
is
used
for practice transcribing individual
words that
illustrate the various steno-
graphs.
The K+
Steno-table
with
the individual
words already tran scribed
serves
as
the answer
key
that
determines whether
the attempted transcription is correct or
NOT.
The transcription of Aesop's
fable, "The
Tortoise and the
Hare", is meant to be
read
in
order to
familiarize oneself with
stenographs on a sentence by sentence
basis
after
having mastered them on a
word by word basis using the K+
Steno-
exercise-table.
The
K+
Steno-notes
discusses
technique
like
Forkner
word
abbreviations, phonetic
outline of words and sentences,
and
the
joining of words
that
make speedwriting
efficient
providing that the transcribe text
remains decipherable in order
for it to be
typed.
In
short, the K+
Steno-method
teaches
speedwriting
using
Forkner stenography
in
a sequential manner: firstly,
on a word
by word basis
with
the K+
Steno-exercise-
table;
secondly,
on a sentence by
sentence
basis
using Aesop's
fable, "The
Tortoise
and the Hare";
thirdly, by
the effective and
efficient use of Forkner
short format tran-
scription
as explained
in the extensive
K+
Steno-notes.
The
K+
Steno-method
is a
comprehensive
approach
to
mastering speedwriting.
It's
quick,
simple,
easy,
and
fun.
This
method makes speedwriting
"so
doable".
K+
Steno-exercise-table
It
presents
Forkner
stenographs,
the
phonetic (sound- based) letters of
Forkner
stenography, in
"a
logical,
graduated
way"
to
facilitate learning.
The
10-page
K+
Steno-exercise-table
is
provided in order to
practice
the tran-
scription of the individual words in the
right-hand
column
that
highlight the
English letters replaced by the steno-
graph in
Forkner transcription in the
left-hand column. In
the middle column
is the description of the stenograph.
The
K+
Steno-exercise-table
is the
identical
K+
Steno-table
minus
the
word transcriptions.
The
K+
Steno-table
(the
one with the
words
transcribed)
is the
answer key
while the K+
Steno-exercise-table
is
for
practice transcription of individual
words
that
illustrate a stenograph.

K+
Steno-notes
The
35+
pages of K+
Steno-notes
help
to
stress the fact that tran-
scription
is
sound-based
and is
therefore, unrelated
to spelling.
It
divides speedwriting into long
and short
format.
Long format deals with
the 1-sound
stenographs beginning with the
vowels, then the
vowel blends,
and the consonants.
Short format deals with
consonantal
combo-sound stenographs and finally,
stenographs
representing a variety of
of sound-combos.
It demonstrates
how efficient short
format speedwriting can be using
various
techniques like Forkner
word
abbreviation
and word
linkage by
using
a
minimum of stenographs:
just
enough
to get
the
sound
outline
of
the sentence.
The
purpose of the notes is to show
that speedwriting based on Forkner
transcription is
a
very
flexible,
fun,
fast way
to learn
speedwriting.

(of Them)
The
K+
Steno-notes demonstrate
how notation speed can be increased
by using a minimum of
stenographs,
by using Forkner 1-syllabic word abbre-
viations,
by combining words, and
by using word and sentence
sound
outlines.
As an added benefit they repeatedly
drive
home the fact that with the
English language there is a
very real
disconnect
between
the spelling of a
word
and its
pronunciation.
Aesop's
Fable
Included
in the K+
Steno-kit
is a 4-
page transcription of
Aesop's
fable,
"The
Tortoise and the Hare"
along
with a 2-page
comparative long and
short Forkner transcription format

as the answer
key
in
correctly decoding the tran-
scription.

Why?
It
constitutes a
practical and
indispensable tool at
the office
in the manual processing of
information.
In
fact, it is an
"essential"
tool
today not only for yourself,
but
also for your children.
For
your children.
Will
it
help
your children get better
grades?
For s-u-r-e!
Here's
why: by "learning to
write
phonetically (by sound)"
they
will
come to
realize
how
"illogical"
English
spelling really is.
They
will also learn that the spelling
of a word in English is NOT neces-
sarily a good indication of
its pro-
nunciation
unlike
other
alphabe-
tically-based languages like
Italian,
Spanish,
or German
where the
spel-
ling is pronunciation-based.
English
spelling is
etymologically
(the historical origin and evolution
of a word) based,
rather
then based
upon
pronunciation and explains
the spelling of a the word like
"cause"
which
is pronounced
"cuz"
from
the French
word
"cause"
pronounced
in
French
as "cohz".
Children
even in Grade
5 or higher
will enjoy
the
simplicity of transcri-
bing words
into Forkner.
They
will be amazed to learn that
some
letters
in
some words are
NOT
pronounced
- at
all
-
like the
letter
"w"
in
"who"
;
the letter "l"
in
"salmon";
the letter "u"
in "build",
the
second "o"
and the
"e"
in "tortoise".
They
will even learn that
certain
let-
ters are
NOT
pronounced
by how
they look.
Take for example the word
"station"
where
the second
"t" is
pronounced "sh";
"initiate"
where
"the first
t"
is
pronounced "sh";
"brochure"
where
the "c"
is pro-
nounced like an
"s";
"soldier"
where the
"d"
is
pronounced like
a "j";
"procedure" where
the
"d"
is also pronounced like a
"j".
This
new
phonetic
knowledge
of
the
English language
will
surely improve
their spelling ability
and in
turn in-
crease
their level of self-confidence
in their scholastic capacity
to be-
come successful in
doing their
school resulting in higher grades
and less stress
when
doing their
school
assignments.
For
yourself.
Need
to take notes?
Why lug around a
laptop when you
know Forkner
and can
take
a steno-
pad?
The typing-up
of
your
transcribed
notes later
allows
you
a
chance to
recall,
review,
and
edit
in
order to
to better
summarize what was
said. This
makes for less notes.
You will
appreciate having enough
time to
listen
to what is being said
"before"
deciding
what you need to
jot
down
making
for more efficient
note-taking
rather
than trying to
write
nearly everything that's being
said.
This will allow you
the
chance to ask
questions
for clarification on
what is
being said:
all this thanks to your
mastery of Forkner transcription.
