Ottawa, February 20th 2007
Mr. Paul Belisle
Clerk of the Senate of Canada
Room 185S
The Senate of Canada
Parlement Hill
Ottawa K1A 0A4
Dear Mr. Belisle,
I was told in the Summer of '83 by
an officer of the Senate who had,
I understand, his Pd.D. from
the
University of Carleton, that if I did
NOT start abusing the System -
like
everbody else - I would lose
my job.
I refused to abuse the System and
and consequently, received a
6-month notice stating that the
Senate of
Canada was not going
to renew my contract.
This, I found odd, as I had become a
permanent employee when
I went from Chief Page to
Senate Night Messenger in
1979.
Being already a father of two
children I hoped to resolve the pro-
blem in a letter to the Clerk
of the Senate,
Mr. Lussier. He refused
to respond to my letter and
grinned when he saw me.
I, therefore, went to the Public
Service Alliance of Canada who
hooked me up with Yolande Viau
and, together, we
got the Union,
PSAC, on Parliament Hill. However,
the Public Service Alliance
of
Canada (PSAC) did nothing to save my job.
Yet in the following year, March
1984, I was the only one unem-
ployed who completed their
weekend Union Stewart
Course at
their request for which I
received $50 and a certificate.
Seeing that Revenu Canada emptied my
back account insis-
ting that I owe them money
when I don't, I strongly
feel the way
to settle this matter is
for me to get $460,000 ($20,000 x 23
years) in back pay to which I'm entitled to for wrongful dismis-
sal that
caused my wife to divorce me.
Cordially yours,
Kenneth Selin (say'leen)
